Eicr before or after renovation?

About to start renovation / refurb on a small 2 bed terrace. We're planning to extend the kitchen in the spring and rip out and replace the bathroom shortly afterwards.

However in the meantime we'd like to push on with renovating and redecorating the 2 x bedrooms, landing, hallway, lounge and diner (i.e. everything else) ... all of these rooms we'd like to modify the electrics... fitting new power points, light fittings and switches etc.

I'd also like to get an EICR done on the house (for peace of mind more than anything). Should i be getting this report done ahead of any works? Or should i get an electrician round to quote on the work we want doing to the rooms and presume an EICR will be done as part of this work or required again at the end of thew work?

What's the sequence for these things?

HI ,

I would recommend a EICR report before starting any refurbishment work as the report will recommend any remedial works which may need carrying out and also check your installation is up to current standards (17th Edition ) this will allow you to carry out the necessary remedial work before decorating .

Get it done first it will find any potential faults and save electrician time later and when new work is done a retest to make everything OK for certificates. Electrical and or building warrant if needed
