Lead counterweights or spring balances

Have had a quote from a window tradesman for a hardwood sash window.

He has suggested two options:

1. Counterweight pulley system with lead weights and rope.

2. Building a spiral box with steel spring balances inside the frame.

Option 2 is £200 cheaper than Option 1. Which option will offer more durability? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the 2 options?

Any insight offered would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

THE ROPE AND PULLY SYSTEM IS THE BST OPTION AND WILL WORK FOR ATLEAST 50 YEARS IF THE WINDOWS ARE CORRECTLY MAINTAINED.THE SPRING BALANCES ARE MORE VISABLE AND DO NOT HAVE THE LIFE SPANE OF THE COUNTERWEIGHT PULLY SYSTEM.GOOD LUCK

using the pulley system albeit more expensive it will be cheaper in the long run using the spring balances is both aesthetically not pleasing and has a short life span
