Suddenly bowing wooden floor - why and what to do!?

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 2.48 PM

I have a wooden floor - they were in the flat when I moved in so I'm not sure if they are solid wood or veneer. No issues with damp or moisture (I've recently had a survey and had this confirmed) however over the past 3-4 weeks a stretch of my wooden floor has started to rise up at the seam between boards creating an uneven surface. It is becoming quite pronounced and has happened so quickly I'm a bit concerned. It only affects an area about 2 feet wide (6 board width) and 7 feet long. I've been here for 4 years and this has only just started. I have moved furniture recently - could this has warped the floor boards? I moved a wardrobe and replaced it with a book case of similar weight. Any ideas about why this is happening and if it's possible to reverse the warping would be very welcome! Thanks

Need to check perimeter for expansion, you should have min 10 mm gap all round area, if there is not cut back 10 mm around, allows the tension in floor to relax.
