Does replacement/fitting of a cooker hood require an electrician?

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 3.01 PM

Is an electrician necessary (in terms of certification of work, etc.) for the removal & replacement of a cooker hood, or can a general handyman do this? Thanks very much, Lorna

In terms of compliance with BS7671:2008 this work requires a minor electrical works certificate to be issued so its an electricians job really.

Hi Lorna, If Handyman is competent and its like for like change it’s ok but if you like to have guarantee baked by insurance with minor work certificate the handyman won’t be able to match this requirement. Also there may be risk to have handyman to handle your installation as if new wiring colour code with new appliance he mixed with old wiring for this could result in injury or may lead to main fuse blow. I hope you can make your own judgment on this. Paying registered electrician and get job done is value for money and safer! Post the job on my builder and find right person for right job! All the best. Vin
