Carpenter asking me for more money

Hello everyone :) I have recently hired a carpenter to lay my laminate flooring, skirting and door. The argument I have just had with him is as follows. He put a up a new interior door for me and after he planed it and hung it up on the hinges the door turned out to have a twist in it by quite a bit. I wasn't happy with this so I went and got it exchanged. Now he is saying that I got to pay him for that regardless of the twist but my argument is he should have checked it prior to fitting it, as he is capable of spotting this as he showed me with the door off the hinges. If he is genuinely entitled to that money I will give it to him no problem, what do you guys think ?
