Carpenter asking me for more money
Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 3.04 PM
Hello everyone :)
I have recently hired a carpenter to lay my laminate flooring, skirting and door.
The argument I have just had with him is as follows.
He put a up a new interior door for me and after he planed it and hung it up on the hinges the door turned out to have a twist in it by quite a bit.
I wasn't happy with this so I went and got it exchanged.
Now he is saying that I got to pay him for that regardless of the twist but my argument is he should have checked it prior to fitting it, as he is capable of spotting this as he showed me with the door off the hinges.
If he is genuinely entitled to that money I will give it to him no problem, what do you guys think ?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Yes he should have spotted the door was not hanging right when he put it up, but these things do not always come to light while the work is going on. But he could have said you should have looked at the door when you purchased it, best thing to keep a happy medium is to pay the £30 quid extra
Regards Peter
If he supplied the door then it is more his problem. He should get the door replaced and hang again.
If you asked him to hang the door that you supplied then it is your issue as you have the contract of the purchase of faulty goods. Pay him for hanging it.
You have no issue with him or his work so try not to fall out!
Being a carpenter myself the answer is no if you are unhappy with the work and it was faulty he should not have fitted it to begin with so should come back and do it again with no extra cost
