Electrical Question

Wattage of led equivalent to 60 watt light fitting

Hi. I want to install x6 LED downlights in a bedroom ceiling (room is approx 4m long x 3 m wide x 2.7 m high). Could someone please advise what the best wattage LED I would need to create a light output approx equivalent (or slightly brighter) to the current 60 watt light fitting we have?

Thanks

All LED bulbs are different as LED technology can differ so much.

When we install downlights we go for a 3w LED bulb that is much brighter than a 60w bulb. You also need to consider the colour as there are cool white (a -bright- white) or a warm white (a more standard colour with the yellow tone to it).

Basically, go for a decent brand of bulb from somewhere reputable and pay tidy money for them as the cheap ones often aren't very good.

The light levels are measured in lumens and bulb manufactures vary but for a standard 60w incandescent bulb it is approx 800-850 lumens. The LED's I use generally are 4w GU10 and are 320 lumen's (6x320=1920 lumen's but not as bright as this sounds as the light is evenly distributed across the ceiling). Most customers like this lamp but lighting can be a personal thing and occasionally I come across a customer that does not like the light given off.
