Venting a boarded up fireplace

I have a 60s bungalow, do l need to vent a boarded up fireplace?

It is always best to vent a boarded up fireplace, this will allow air circulation to pass through the chimney flue and help with the possible build up of condensation forming and creating damp patches on the chimney breast.
