Insulation

Can insulation be added between plasterboard and block wall?

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 2.46 PM

I live in a flat and one of the outside walls is particularly cold - I suspect the cavity insulation is poor or missing completely but can't do much about it as it isn't my wall. I've looked behind the internal plasterboard by making a small hole and there's a 6 inch gap between the plasterboard and the block wall (metal studs). Is there any way to add insulation into this gap through holes in the plasterboard (which could then be patched up and skimmed) without pulling off all of the existing stud wall? Or would a better solution simply be to replace it all with insulated plasterboard?

Hi there. I think the best way is to remove the existing and replace with thermaboard plaster board and skim coat with plaster. Regards Andy

Hi, if you have seen there is a void between, then you can most definitely fill with insulation. The only problem is that it will have to be pumped in. Not many holes will need to be drilled as the insulation finds the gaps. I know AMH says take down and use insulation board, if you do, strip then get Celetex 100mm and place that between the studs. This is much better and gives a much better insulation value and then re board and skim. Hope this helps John Solid building services
