Plug socket for washing machine
Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 3.00 PM
Is it legal for a washing machine to be hard-wired (there is a switch above the counter top)? If a new one is added which comes with a plug, can that one be hard wired?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
It's really hard to answer with this little information, can you add a photo and some more info about the cable feeding "switch above the counter" and its circuit breaker rating ?
The term hard wired can be misleading as what I think you mean is permanently connected via a switched fused spur rather than a removable plug. If non-flexible hard wire type cable has in fact been used to connect the washing machine to the wall outlet instead of a flexible braided type wire, then it would definitely be non-compliant with BS7671:2008 17th Edition requirements. However more information is needed really.

Hi
It can do, the problem you'll have is the warranty may be void if there is a problem with the machine, regards Jeh.
