Tap hole in ceramic sink

Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 3.00 PM

Hi I have just purchased a new ceramic sink and need to know about a tap hole. Can somebody confirm the best way to do this? The website states that I only need a centre punch and a hammer. I just need reassurance that I'm not going to crack my sink in half? http://www.tapsuk.com/desire150wht-5e-astini-desire-150-1.5-bowl-gloss-white-ceramic-kitchen-sink--waste-and-5e-tap.html Many Thanks Graeme

Hi, I feel your pain, the last thing you want to do with a brand new sink is hammer into it! On the back of the sink there should be some round holes drilled into it showing the tap locations. Pick your tap location and measure out exactly where it comes to on the top face, and yes get a hammer and hole punch or a sharp small flat screwdriver. I normally start in the middle till I've made a hole and work your way out to the edges of the tap hole. It does seem a bit daunting the first few hits but after a while you get used to it, just go light and take your time. I have done many of these and never broken a sink! :-)

There should be a depression underneath and slightly raised above on both sides so it can be left hand drainer or right hand drainer. I have always used a flat head six inch nail, they are fired so it's thinner at that point, as little duck says just take your time. Tom
