How to increase water pressure in house with a closed system

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.59 PM

I have a system boiler (closed system). Cold water is from a shared tank in the attic with a row of maisonettes. I should add that we have no mains water - *all* water comes from the shared tank in the loft. It works fine but it would be nice to increase the water pressure if possible without installing a new combi boiler. Also, I have read around that one way to increase the water pressure is to install a pump. My only concern is the noise level as my previous property had one and it was just plain noisy. Our current Vaillant boiler also has a pressure gauge with two needles - one showing actual pressure and one manual (red) one showing what I can only guess is the recommended maximum pressure. The red needle is at the 1.2 bar mark (though the gauge goes up to 3). Would going over the 1.2 mark make a difference and/or cause issues?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Fitting a good quality booster pump such as a Stuart Turner will increase the flow rate at your hot water outlets, as long as the pump is mounted on a suitable base and sound proofing the pump within a small ventilated compartment, their should be no problems. As for the issue with the boiler pressure, there is a potentially serious problem, ask your local Gas Safe engineer along to investigate and make good repairs.

the pressure indicated at your boiler bears no relationship to the pressure at your taps. in your case, a pump is the only way to go.
