Electrical

what cooker switch do i need

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 2.45 PM

i need to replace a cooker switch this one is very old how do i know what cooker switch to buy? Its big fat with 2 red double switches one for cooker and one on/off switch witch a socket. I cant see how many amp is it but im pretty sure is 45 amp. Do i have to replace it with the same switch it was or do i need something different, because an oven and hob are coming of the same switch. Do i need an electrician (if so how much would it cost to get this done, and could You do the job?) or can i do it myself ??? Please advise :(

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A cooker panel with two red switches on and with a socket will almost certainly be 45amp. see image below http://www.screwfix.com/p/crabtree-45a-switch-13a-socket-neon/81895 You can change this yourself but you will need to get part P consent from your local authority, so it maybe cheaper and easier to hire an electrician. Probably a £30 sort of job?

Part P has been relaxed, no need to notify this type of work within a kitchen.
