Cracked paint in bathroom

Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 2.59 PM

Hi, We have recently moved into an old cottage and I have been decorating the house my last room is the bathroom buy before I start I wondered if anyone could help with a couple of questions I have. At the moment the paint on the walls is cracking and flaking free. The other problem I have is that the previous owner looks like they painted straight over the flaking paint and now the walls and some of the ceiling looks a bit of a mess with lots of areas where the paint had come free and the had not repaired it before painting again. I think I have done a decent job on the rest of the house and it looks smart so I want to do a decent job on the bathroom can someone please help. Many thanks Martin

use a scraper to remove any loose and flaking paint fill any holes in the paint with a good filler and sand the affected area. paint with a good brand paint like Dulux for bathrooms and shower areas. hope this helped.

bathrooms, much like kitchens are exposed to a lot of moisture and humidity. this will, over time, cause the problems you are describing. especially with inferior paint products. the best way to tackle this would be to thoroughly sand all the affected areas after first scraping away all loose paint and debris. then coat the affected area/s with a good quality shellac based damp sealer. then fill the affected areas with a good water resistant filler and sand smooth. when patches are repaired, re treat with shellac damp seal and allow to dry thoroughly before applying at least 2 coats of SATIN OR SILK emulsion, again, of good quality and always try to ventilate the room as much and as often as possible. cheers. darren.
