Garages & Sheds Question

Garage roof concerte asbestos

Is an asbestos concrete roof dangerous. can you leave it or does it need to be replaced

If the roof is completely intact with no signs of damage then it is fine to leave it. Asbestos is dangerous when broken and particles become airborne. When this is the case it will definitely need to be removed but only by a licensed contractor which can be expensive but at least you know it will be removed and disposed of correctly and legally.

As above really, however the condition of the sheets is never going to get better. They will degrade over time. It's better to act sooner rather than later. In the current condition they are easier to work with and pose little risk. If you leave them until signs of breakage, they are at greater risk of friction between the surfaces and creating dust. A typical cement fibre roof sheet contains between 1 - 30% asbestos mineral, but on average about 8%. Not a great deal I know but it's in there all the same. My advice - change the sheets before you NEED to.
