Plastering Question

Browning plaster skimming alternative before tiling

I have taken the tiles of my bathroom and underneath the tiles was a lining paper layed on browning plaster which was skimmed on top before the tiling. I have removed the lining paper and its mostly the top smooth that has come off so far.

Now I would like to find out if I have to strip the whole lining paper off and if there are any alternatives to skimming the browning plaster before tiling. I have a tight budget/no budget for skimming. Would something like polcell do?

100% definitely must get the paper off. Most tilers will want to skim onto a smooth skimmed surface as its much easier to work on. Although some will tile straight to roughing and it is perfectly fine to do so. Id ask your tiler what they want. If your doing it yourself id maybe use tile adhesive to fill the holes out first and would seal the walls with pva before you tile them. Maybe repost this question in tiling section, see what those boys have to say
