About TJD. Bricklaying & Pointing Services

I began my apprenticeship as a bricklayer in 1971 with a company called Dongrand Ltd. The company at that time specialised in Stone Masonry and wanted to diverse into traditional house building and renovations. As l was learning the art of bricklaying l also was involved the the stone masons and learned a lot from them.

When l qualified as a bricklayer in 1976 l was working on a large residential social housing project in west London. I was trained as a foreman bricklayer and went on to work on various large scale projects such as the re-pointing and renovation of Kings Cross Station. The stone cladding of the A40 in Northolt and various large scale renovation of period properties in central London.

In the late 1990s when the construction industry went into recession l was trained as a Highway Inspector and worked for several London boroughs ending my career as a Senior Highway Enforcement Officer after taking early retirement in 2008.

Since then l have returned to the construction industry as a self employed Sole Trader trading under the name of TJD Brickwork and Re-pointing Services.

I am now semi retired and take on small projects mainly the external renovation of period property. The majority of the work is repairing or replacing damaged brick and stone, re-pointing Weather Struck or traditional Lime Mortar.

  • Brickwork holes to fill (period ground floor flat)

Really pleased with the job, and would absolute hire Terry again.

  • Re-pointing internal

Excellent job, a true professional, attention to detail, turned up every day on time, very pleased. Would thoroughly recommend.

  • Lime morter repointing

The mortar at the back of my 1850's terrace house was in poor condition and had been repaired poorly in the past with cement rather than the original lime. Terry visited a couple of times to assess everything and gave detailed and clear advice on what needed to be done, the old mortar would be carefully removed and replaced on the first floor with hydraulic lime that would be more suitable for the old building methods.
Terry and his apprentice turned up on time and completed the job on schedule and at the quoted price all with minimal fuss. The result is very clean and neat and looks like a new wall.
I was always kept in the loop with email updates and photos throughout which was very reassuring when i wasn't there.
A true craftsman, I have already contracted Terry for more work on a separate part of the house.
