I started off working for a local gardener, doing maintenance on large properties around Cheshire. As my lifestyle out grew my wage I moved on and started working for Massey Foundations and Piling. My roll was mainly traditional under pinning and putting in 6 inch mini piles for new builds and slabs, this involved fixing the steel re-enforcement bars to create beams and mats for the footings and slabs as well as pouring and finishing the concrete. Traditional under pinning is basically hand digging under buildings and filling the hole with concrete to create a new foundation. I then moved on to new build housing sites where as a gang we dug out and concreted strip footings, poured the slabs, installed the drainage and the individual utility feeds. We also installed kerbs and edging's. I then started work for a pipe laying company specializing in laying deep drainage. I have laid pipes from 4 inches to 1.8 meters in diameter in all types of ground conditions using all different types of shoring equipment.The deepest I worked at was 8 meters. As the demand for this type of work faded in 2008 I went to work for a surfacing company where I learnt how to lay and finish tarmac and lay flags and kerbs. With all this experience I was recommended for a supervisory roll on the East Manchester line of the metro link extension works. Here I was responsible for all the men and plant on my sections. Working along side engineers and keeping in line with the program of works, attending meetings with the construction managers and dealing with the issues raised at ground level. I would supervise up to 30 men from a variety of trades. Although I enjoyed my time on the metro link sites, I think the responsibility I had made me realize that I wanted to work for myself, doing the work I most enjoyed. I started working for myself full time in January 2014 taking on different landscaping jobs mainly around domestic houses. I enjoy designing and building new gardens and driveways and have completed many successful projects this year, often surpassing the expectations of my customers.
