About Oxbow Developments Ltd

Trained as a Dryliner Plasterer in 1988 then started doing small building projects. Now as general Building Contractors we cover all trades in the building industry, from Kitchen and Bathroom installations to Extensions and new build homes and much much more.
We are members of the NHBC (National House Builders Council) who actively assess current building practices, this keeps us at the top of our industry giving customers extra peace of mind.
All my team are fully qualified and time served tradesmen and are a pleasure to be around.
We know Building projects can seem daunting to clients, with our vast knowledge and customer focused service we take the stress and the strain out of any project leaving the customer relaxed and reassured that they are in safe hands.

  • Single storey 3.5m extension to back of house

    Kerry and his team have been lovely to have around the house and they have delivered a top quality extension. Throughout the large extension project we were always well advised and were able to input as needed to get the outcome we desired. We had complex steel work requirements and these were well planned and handled by Kerry and his team. We were impressed with the results. The team helped minimize disruption on the rest of our house and they were very good with our neighbours and keeping them happy too. Kerry's communication is excellent, we would use him for all future projects and we would recommend him without hesitation.

  • Extension and loft conversion

    Our extension was booked in with Kerry in December 2019. We wanted the work to start in July 2020. With the global pandemic of Covid-19 we were expecting the start of work to be delayed. During the initial lockdown March, Kerry kept us updated about how everything was progressing and said that he was anticipating starting to the original target date.

    Our build did start in July and is now in the final week. I have been incredibly impressed with Kerry and his team. We have a two year old daughter and I am heavily pregnant, and Kerry and his team have worked hard to ensure everything remains clean, tidy and safe for us.

    Kerry managed the entire build very well. He kept us well informed about all the different trades that are necessary for build and ensures things run to schedule.

    Kerry, Ross and Will are an excellent team and have entertained us and our daughter throughout the build!! With all of the Covid restrictions and lockdowns, this build could have been incredibly stressful but despite these challenges Kerry has managed it well for us to be as ready as possible before the baby arrives!! Inevitably there were issues and delays with materials and deliveries due to Covid, however Kerry was great in responding to any issues to make sure they didn't impact on the overall build.

    I would 100% recommend Oxbow Builders!! We would definitely be our first choice for any future building works!

  • Rear kitchen & bedroom extension

    Kerry is a personable front man who talks the talk but overall failed to deliver promises. The real gripe is intended 12-16 weeks build has taken over 11 months & extra costs were unreasonable.
    Factoring in covid pressures for materials I was still dissatisfied with his team who were rarely seen and most weeks would be on site for just the odd day. Clearly Oxbow were juggling other jobs & I get that - we all understand the issues as a small business with cash flow challenges but massive delays were not managed properly.
    Then we had the issues off “out of contract” extra costs. Too many items to mention and I blame myself for not being more diligent with initial contracts. Oxbow on numerous occasions made charges for things which technically were not mentioned in the contract but some items were ridiculous. On top 12k for completion of a patio, floor tiling & wall steps & coping . I asked for a breakdown of cost which were extraordinarily high in my opinion were not forthcoming and I proceeded with other professionals who essentially saved me £8k !
    Buyer please beware you will most likely end up spending very costly extras on items which you assume would be included. You need to challenge any extras - Kerry didn’t like to be challenged.
    Overall too many delays and plenty of bullshit about delays but I do eventually have at least an excellent extension although had to source fantastic other tradesmen on my builder to complete so called “extras” at reasonable cost

    We are glad you are pleased with your excellent extension and our workmanship.
    The delays to your project were due to several factors.
    You cancelled the start date of your project due to lockdown and we started our next project. A few weeks later you contacted us numerous times as you had changed your mind. We could not put you ahead of our current client as you requested but it was agreed that we would start on the clear understanding that someone could not be on site every day.
    We were refused access to your home many times due to the pandemic which did impact on what works could be carried out. We advised on several occasions there were shortages of materials and long lead times for windows and doors. We always try to keep our customers informed so it is disappointing that you think this information was untrue. However changes of mind, indecision and requests for additional works did have an effect on timescales.
    A specification of works was provided, agreed and signed prior to starting. The extra costs you mention were for items that were never discussed prior to quotation or were for changes you subsequently made. Quotes for all extra works were provided but you were under no obligation to accept. We do not agree with the figures you quote as you are not comparing like for like.
    We hope you continue to enjoy your fabulous extension and outside space that we created for you. We have a very strong customer base which can be seen from our other excellent reviews.
