About Morris Architectural Design

Morris Architectural Design is a young and dynamic, design led architectural practice. Set up by Nathaniel Morris, we are proud of the personal service that we provide, always at hand every step of the way.

After graduating from the University of Kent in 2012 Nathaniel spent some time in the South East gaining a thorough grounding in the technicalities of the construction industry. First taking up a post as a CAD technician for a steel fabricator, primarily producing working drawings and bending schedules for both cut and bent steel rebar and pre-fabricated units such as ground beams, pile cages, pile caps etc. During his time there Nathaniel was fortunate enough to be involved with the design, manufacture and delivery of the pile cages for the New American Embassy in central London, as well as the reinforced concrete rings for the New Crossrail project in central London.

Nathaniel also spent some time working as a roof truss designer for a national timber engineering company and is fully conversant with roof design and timber engineering.

Since relocating to the South West, Nathaniel has worked for several architectural practices and has a wealth of experience of all things residential, with a particular knowledge for rural architecture. He has extensive experience with barn conversions, whether it be under Class Q of the general permitted development order, or the more traditional full planning route.

Nathaniel is also a member of the Design Review Panel. The Design Review Panel comprises a group of independent, multi-disciplinary construction professionals working in the field of the built environment.

The Panel provides impartial expert advice to applicants and local authorities on design issues in relation to important new development schemes and proposals for important public spaces, including both significant minor applications, major planning applications and pre-application development proposals

When not working Nathaniel likes to fill his time enjoying the Devonshire countryside and coast with his young family, and particularly enjoys spending time up on Dartmoor or visits to the North Devon coast.

  • Planning and build of side extension

We are only part-way through the process with Nathaniel and it has been a great start. He has a really good approach, his communications and estimates are excellent, he is instantly likeable and I thoroughly recommend him. We are looking forward to completing our journey with him.

  • Basic outline plan for quotes and planning application

Really pleased with Nathaniel. Reasonable charges, nice ideas and accurate plans. Friendly chap too. Happy to recommend.

  • Commercial to residential use

I employed Nathaniel to guide me with obtaining planing permission for a change of use, and this was successful.
I had a few architects get in touch and the reason I went with Nathaniel is because he gave a very clear breakdown on costs. Another firm did as well and others were vague, whilst others just chewed my ear off on the phone for 30 minutes and basically wasted my time.
On initial inspection of the quotation it seemed to be the highest quote but upon examination it wasn't; it was just that he had considered absolutely everything whereas others had carefully omitted some of the costings in order I think, to artificially give a lower quotation!
The quotation came back in good time, and importantly he stuck to it.
He set out time frames for complying drawings etc and stuck to these as well, he replied to every email normally within 24hrs but often within minutes, always polite and courteous, despite my flapping on occasions.
Came out on a Sunday to measure up and do the site meeting.
Other aspects of the planning process involving other firms; topography for example were all dealt with on my behalf and he shopped around to obtain the best prices as these could vary by hundreds of pounds.
He dealt with all the planning application process and the officer.
I wouldn't even consider another architect and if you're reading this; you can rest assured you are in safe hands with one very professional, polite and lovely guy who will give you his full attention.
