The Companionship dates back for at least eight centuries and is a continuation of a technical and philosophical teaching method the principle of which, like the English Guilds, goes back to the origins of trades. The Companions, who historically, participated in the construction of the remarkable Cathedrals of France and latterly the Eiffel Tower, are now at the forefront of the latest achievements and participate in the restoration of prestigious public buildings and major contemporary projects.
My training with the Companions involved what is known as “the tour de France” during which I travelled throughout France, learning all aspects of the trade under the tutelage of skilled tutors and leaders of the Campanions. This included engineering and design whilst working on a wide variety of unique and prestigious projects .
