    I posted the job to replace a cill last Monday and heard immediately from Ian. It was important that the job was carried out quickly as surrounding rendering would need to be carried out before and after the cill was fitted. On Wednesday I accepted Ian’s quote, but added a second cill to the job. On Thursday morning I spoke to Ian to agree when the work would be carried out. As luck had it it was raining in London, so they had a free day. We agreed that Craig (Ian’s son) could come to Cambridgeshire later that day. This
    he did arriving at lunch time, measured the work, sourced hardwood for the new fills, fashioned the new fills and fitted them by 4:30 pm.

    I was very happy with the service and the quality of the work and would recommend them for similar work.

    Ian & his team came to quote for double glaze windows after completing a minor job and quoted me a price. They requested a £1,200 deposit, with 3-week lead time.

    We paid the deposit on 4th November 2022, the install date was then delayed till after Xmas and ultimately pushed back again and again till it became apparent no windows had ever in fact been ordered. He just spent the money.

    6 months later no deposit has been returned and regrettably we are now pursuing the matter through the small claims court.

    Ian has proven to be an inveterate liar.

    Proceed with extreme caution. I never write negative reviews but am doing this in the interest of transparency so people can make an informed decision about working with this contractor.

    The initial work turned out to be unsuccessful and the leaks remained.
    After countless unanswered phone calls and text message exchanges and a couple of no turn-outs on the dates agreed, he finally came last week and witnessed the leaks himself. After putting some sealant, he mainly blamed the wrong glass panels used by the builder probably some years ago, he left. The leaks were still there the very next morning after it rained overnight. I had to hire someone else to re-do the job and the leaks were successfully fixed. For me, it is a job undone although the builder felt that he (and his mate) spent most of the day in the first try and came a second time is worth the 450 pounds we paid for.

    It's a real shame that I've had to leave this feedback as Ian's a nice chap however, the work that was done was not up to the required standard and we've had to get another company in to rectify the flashing that Ian and his team put in. The only reason the flashing hasn't been taken off is because of the mess to the brickwork (angle grinder) behind the flashing is totally unsightly. Also, the flashing wasn't sealed. I text Ian after the job but didn't receive any further reply. Great disappointment and waste of money.

    Vents were fitted well, workers were polite; however the hinge was broken from one window and another one had a damaged mechanism when the windows were put back into the frames. I text Ian and they didn’t have availability to send someone out to resolve the issue so I had to pay another company to rectify the issues. I’ve left this as neutral feedback because I’m happy with the vents just not happy with the additional work created and money spent on hiring another company to resolve the issues.

    AVOID THIS COMPANY! Unreliable and unprofessional. I feel scammed. A second opinion from another company described the work as the most untidy he has seen.

    We used my builder to identify someone appropriate to carry out the work required on our conservatory. They responded to the post quickly and initial contact seemed promising, but how wrong I was.

    They failed to start on the agreed date and only let me know on the day, after I chased them, they came the following day at 11:30 after stating they would arrive at 9. After working for just a couple hours they informed me that more work was required and there was a significant price increase from the initial quote, they seemed to do little work on the first day and stated they would come back tomorrow.

    My partner took a day off work and they simply did not arrive without any information as to why. They finally messaged us that evening and apologised and a date to continue the work was agreed.

    They once more arrived 3 hours later than agreed and once more did not finish the work so they planned to come back. To my amazement they simply did not turn up for the second time! Again without reason.

    He finally came back and supposedly finished the work… the first bit of rain we had following the supposed completion the conservatory leaked, the exact issue we had paid £2350 for him to fix

    He has since come back and we will now await to find out if it is watertight, even if it leaks we would not have him back

    We gave £650 in cash upfront (half the quote) but were left without a secure front door, with wasted/inappropriate materials, and had to redo the whole project from scratch.
    Our quote was for a one-day job - after pushing back the start date from Monday to Tuesday, your team were here for two half days. At the end of the Wednesday, you promised to return for a third day to finish, but did not return on Thursday, saying you would instead on Friday. You then did not turn up on Friday either. We were therefore left with no secure front door for 4 days ahead of a bank holiday. We had to finish the job ourselves, and in doing so quickly realised we'd have to restart the job from scratch due to the quality of the work that had been undertaken. At the point reached after two days, there was only a very basic frame in place. The frame also i) did not fit correctly (it was too narrow, meaning the door did not open and close), ii) was made from interior softwood (so not at all weather resistant or suitable for a front door); iii) the threshold step had also been raised in height, when we had requested it be lowered; and iv) the door had been hung the wrong way round, with the outside fascia facing inward.    
    This meant we had to remove all of the softwood frame, and disregard everything built to that point, as it was wholly unfit for purpose. We also had to fill the slots chiseled in the wrong side of the door & to repair the damage.

    Job was more complex, due to solid concrete walls, than thought. The guys gave good advice on how to proceed and some additional advice on how to fully complete the job (which will be done shortly). Good clean up afterwards and very polite and courteous with my mum.

    I have been charged 35% more than agreed. I was told that the quote would be for work on site for the whole day. However, they had to leave by 1pm to do another job but asked for additional £150 as there is more repair required than extra expected. Very unhappy with this company my and feel being ripped off. I have experienced similar actions by other companies before and will stop hiring any trade if possible and start doing ports of DIY myself.
    Ian mills's reply:

    Hi, we quoted you £450 to repair a few slipped panes of glass in your conservatory roof, once we arrived we noticed that the whole roof had dropped and at least 8 glass units had slipped down.
    We gave you a revised quote of £650 to which you agreed.
    Once the work was completed we knocked of an additional £50.
    Then we received your negative feedback.
    You also said you would take down the comment if we returned £150???
    Completely frustrating behaviour from a unreasonable customer.

    Craig (Ian's son) did an amazing job almost immediately as soon as I posted I got a quote within seconds and they at my door to get the job done same day within 1hr.

    The job was urgent as we had a velvet sofa delivered, and for the life of us COULDN'T get into our door frame and turn the corner into the living room we tried everything even removed it from the cardboard box to see if it made a difference...it didn't.

    Only Solution: Was to remove the glass from our house front window frame and get the sofa in through there. Craig and his colleague came right in time like a blessing in disguise as it started to rain! You can imagine, with our velvet sofa unboxed on the drive...we were in DESPERATE NEED FOR HELP.     Ian and Craig renewed the sealant around our windows, both inside and outside.

    They were friendly and punctual. Their quote was slightly more expensive than a second quote that we received but they were available immediately so we hired them.

    All in all, we were mostly satisfied with their work but we have two issues that left us less than 100% happy:

    1) in the job description that we posted, we had asked for all existing sealant to be removed. Ian and Craig did not do this. They only removed some of the existing sealant where it was very brittle. When I asked Ian about this, he stated that it was better to have two layers of sealant than one. I have read up on this issue and all DIY webpages that I could find recommend to remove all of the existing sealant before adding the new one. We thought this was a cheeky response and that Ian and Craig rushed this job a little bit.

    2) after they left, the sealant above one of the windows cracked the very next day. I had to call them up and asked them to come back and fix this. They eventually came back but it took them a couple of weeks and I had to poke them several times.

    All in all, I thought this was an okay job but for these two reasons I cannot give a 100% positive rating.

I had problems with a leaking conservatory, and they diagnosed the problem area, and worked on sealing it all up. Also, they offered some good 'after sales' - if any leaks happen again in the near future, they will come back and sort it out with no extra charges.

    I expected Ian Mills to turn up but it turned out to be his son. The work was completed although only time and a heavy rain storm will tell whether it has been successful. He also tried to seal another window which had started leaking since I made contact. He pointed out the need for repairs to my flat roof (for which I am grateful) which was probably the cause of this leak. However, this turned out to be unsuccessful as it is still leaking.

    Ian is experienced in helping customer to repair the door fitting issue. Our aluminium bi fold door has been originally fitted by other builder with some inperfection. As a result, the lock is damaged. Ian came to inspect the door and did proper measure. He also discovered the broker lock inside which we didn't know before.

    Although he cannot fix the problem on the day, he has provided clear information about how to deal with it and potential options.

  • Install a new bifold door to a new build extension

    Ian took the job but only his sons come to install bifold door. The doors have been installed really badly, many mistakes made, i.e. leave the roller on top of the track which broke the door frame, We paid 500 pounds for a badly installed bifold door which cannot be opened at all. In the end, we have to pay another 600 pounds for a local bifold door repair company to reinstall the door. Would not recommend although they are nice people.
    Ian mills's reply:

    We only installed your bi-fold doors we did not supply them.
    We advised you prior to us installing your doors that you had purchased a low grade set of bi-fold doors and that we are not responsible or offering a guarantee for the product as these types of doors are known for causing problems.
    This job was installed in 2019.
    We came back to your job 4 times to try and make sure you where happy with everything then two years later we receive negative feedback!
    Thankfully we have lots and lots of extremely happy customers who didn’t buy cheap products!
