About HandyGuy

For a long time I worked for the railways as an incident response manager, attending lorries hitting bridges, sheep on the track, floods and so on, with the aim of minimising delay to trains. However, I realised that I was not going to get on in a large corporate environment. I just don't like office politics enough, ironic for someone who did a Politics degree at Newcastle Uni! So in 2012 I quit shortly before I would have qualified for a final salary pension and spent the Summer enjoying the rain and the Olympics.

Now I do a job I really enjoy and which gives me a lot of satisfaction. I consider myself very well versed in all the basics of building maintenance with particularly good knowledge of carpentry and plumbing, though I do like putting my mind to a new challenge. Quite often I am the one people call after other tradesman come up short in finding solutions to problems.

Please take a look at my pictures... they speak a thousand words! Also, I have limited amount of feedback on MyBuilder as most of my work comes to me directly through my own site or by recommendation. I can provide more testimonials and photos specific to the nature of your job if required.

I like to be upfront with my rates, and they are £60 for the first hour and £15 per half hour after that. Minimum charge is £75. Payment is due immediately on completion. I do not mark up my materials so you get those at trade price, typically 10-20% below retail price, but if I have to go to suppliers to get materials specifically for your job that is billable time. For jobs of 3 days or more I can provide an estimate.

Hope to do some work for you soon! Guy
