About Great Western Building Services Ltd

2019 announcement ****Gas Safe/Federation of Master Builders/Trustmark Registered****

*******We now pleased to announce that we undertake work to central heating systems, boiler installation, bathroom refits/reconfiguration. And all general plumbing requirements.***********

I found my way into construction via bricklaying, attending the local college where I gained my City and Guilds. I then worked my way up through the apprenticeships on lots of different projects. These ranged from new build houses, in brick, block, stone work, we have also done a lot of work with Bath stone. I have worked a lot on house renovations and re modelling, which included structural works to internal walls, removal of walls to form openings, and the insertion of steels to accommodate this work. I have also worked on various listed building projects, and am familiar with lime mortar work.

We have much experience with project management, achieving a distinction for my HND in construction at Swindon College. These projects range from extensions, new build houses, and large refurbishment jobs. Notably a large housing development in Bradford On Avon which I project managed.

We are focused and determined to provide the best service we can for you, and for the best price possible. I feel our attention to detail, and quality of finish is what will stand GWBS out from other contractors.

We very much believe in our abilities and hope that you will give us a chance to prove that not all builders are the same.

Kind Regards

Latest reviews

  • Kitchen extension

JohnPaul and his team did an excellent job of building an extension to our kitchen then JP project managed fitting the new kitchen. We are delighted with the results. Thoroughly recommended.

  • Bungalow extension

Good professional organisation, very impressed with the speed of response to all my questions and happy with the way the job has gone and the standard of workmanship throughout.

  • Internal Renovation

I employed GWBS to undertake some renovation work. The building work was done to a reasonable standard.
As extra work I decided on underfloor heating my wows began! I had issues with its installation they ignored manufacturers guidance. The floor was laid on an uneven floor but they had fallen out with the subcontractor and wanted me to chase the works to its completion. I had difficulty getting the work finished. So I refused a final invoice, of £450. Over a 3/4 month period I managed to find someone to finish the flooring. They did the best they could it's uneven in places and the heat isn't uniform. I still needed electrical sign off - I was chased for updates. I asked for them to stop harassing me, we agreed to accept the job as finish they would not contact me again. The subcontractor contacted me - the electrical checks were done.
Having promised they wouldn't contact me, they did, asking for payment. I responded to the text, yes (mistake) but blocked their calls. A few months later they appeared at my house, I was at work. I contacted them immediately via email. They threatened me with debt collectors if I didn't pay that day. I offered a good will payment they refused I endured a day of emails, claims of letters said they sent, sighting recorded delivery, of out of context text messages.
In fear of debt collectors, feeling under duress and stressed I paid them!
I am now considering should I take legal action for distress and harassment.

Great Western Building Services Ltd's reply:

We are incredibly sorry that Mr Tompkins has ended the project feeling this way. From our side, it was as simple as Mr Tompkins replying ‘yes’ when we asked for final payment (as he mentioned) To then not hearing from him for months. We did not know he blocked our calls and emails. So we had no other way of contacting him, other than to call at his house to see what was happening. Once we then understood how Mr Tomkins wanted to proceed,(he didn’t want to pay) did we suggest we would have to seek legal advice. Pretty standard practice for any business in any industry. We are sorry he felt that way, but we just didn’t see any other alternative at the time. He just wouldn’t communicate. It’s worth noting that we had a 5 star review from Mr Tompkins before this unfortunately took place. I hope the other reviews we have gotten give a better, and more accurate indication of the company we strive to be.

    Kind regards

    JP Donovan
