Chris is the most pleasant guy, super efficient and definitely worth every penny. Our stairs are 1930s semi-detached original staircase and creaked like mad! Chris arrived on schedule and advised he would reduce the creaking by at least 80%. The work was undertaken very professionally, no mess and done within 5 hours with 100% creak free stairs! Excellent communication throughout the process, Fixed price at the beginning, arrived on time, cleaned up afterwards. Provided information on the best way to have carpet fitted to stairs. Very friendly, chatty and hard working.
Promised 80% noise reduction for squeaky and creaking stairs but far exceeded this and even fixed a loose newel post on another set of stairs which wasn’t mentioned in the original work I requested.
I would definitely recommend, so if you need your stairs fixing Chris is the guy.

Couldn’t ask for a better service. Chris kept in touch & set a date to attend. He text the day before to confirm he would be attending, and despite the long distance, turned up exactly when he said he would. Such a friendly guy and did a fabulous job. He said that he could only aim to get 80% of the creaks from our old staircase, but managed to get it 100% creak-free! Also advised not to replace our existing treads (some were cracked) as the quality was far better than the ‘modern’ replacement. Whole staircase completed within the same day.
Couldn’t fault his work and would definitely recommend him to anyone.

Chris has just been and fixed my stairs and I must say that he has done a wonderful job. They now feel solid and are silent to walk on. Chris was a friendly professional and we are so pleased with his work. He fixed our very unsafe stairs and tightened all of our other stairs. Can't recommend Chris strongly enough, quote was clear & easy to understand. Communication was easy & informative. Arriving on time, Chris has done an absolutely brilliant job, no creaks at all now on the staircase & and the bannister no longer wobbles. All the treads & risers that needed replacing have been replaced. All the rubbish was cleared away afterwards.

Chris is a master tradesman who fixed what were abominably squeaky stairs at our house. Chris was confident that he would eliminate 80% of the problem, he eliminated 100%. Chris is the stair repair pro! Fixed our new-build winder staircase that was built shoddily in the first place - multiple steps that creaked and some that flexed by inches when you stood on them. My stairs are brilliant!!

This house was built in the 1930s, the top two stairs were creaking and sagging. This was complicated by having a plastered ceiling in the cupboard underneath.

Truth be told, the stairs creaked from the both step to the top, but the top two steps were the worry in case they gave way.

I posted the job and Chris responded.

My experience, no fuss, no drama, sent him the pictures and he gave me a quote without visiting. A fixed price, no quibble or “well it may be more”.

Just a warning; he does stairs; he doesn’t do wardrobes, doors, floorboards; he does stairs and he is good at it.

Arrived prompt on the day, left him to it, and was finished when he said he would. No fuss, no drama; clean, tidy; pleasant and with a good old-fashioned can-do attitude to the job with pride in his work.

Not a squeak in the stairs, weeks later going up and down and not a squeak; thank you Chris.

I would recommend him any day.

I'd had a few companies tell me that I needed a full replacement staircase, but Chris managed to repair my existing stairs for a fraction of the cost, eliminating all the squeaks and movement with minimal disruption. Chris is one of the best tradesmen that I have come across. I have an old house which require frequent maintenance so I do come across a lot of them. He fixed our old, squeaky stairs to a level that we hardly hear anything. He replaced a broken step and added extra support to others. Its been over 6 months and we didn't see any issue. He is polite, friendly, professional and very good at his job. He was also kind enough to come back twice to fix a couple of minor issues. He is a bit expensive when compared to others but its well worth it based on my experience. I would highly recommend him!

Extremely good on on line with everything. His text responses so we both knew what was going on despite working from one end of the county to another. There was concern of hem getting there at 8am by the house he was going to in Worthin and he was there before!! I have already recommended him to a number of people in different parts of the England. I hired Chris to sort a staircase out in my house where my daughter lives. As I live abroad I've not seen the work but the report is that the stairs are good and only a minor squeak compared to the bottom two almost collapsing so good job done! Carpet not fitted back as tightly as it was is the only downside. I would recommend Chris as he was great in responding and corresponding with me.

I must apologise to Chris as he completed this job last year and I completely forgot to leave feedback. I posted a job to fix a staircase in my town house. The bottom stair had almost collapsed and every other stair tread creaked alarmingly. As there was only access from above, it was going to be a "hard to fix" job - so very few Tradesmen were interested, despite me contacting a number and asking for a quote. However Chris's speciality is stairs and he contacted me to request the work as he was confident that he had a solution.

Chris was completely professional from the start - I could see that from the way he contacted me, asked for photos in advance and got to really understood the issues before he travelled.

He then turned up on time, and spent 7 hours shoring up the faulty steps and screwing / gluing all steps and risers in place. He did a fabulous job and none of the steps creak anymore! I am 100% satisfied with his work.

I would absolutely recommend Chris to you - he probably isn't the cheapest, but he is a staircase specialist and will fix your problems whatever they are. Its a fixed price job for the work, parts and travel. On top of this, Chris is a real nice guy and we had a good chat during his visit.

He did everything from above, no mess no fuss, no need to rip off plasterboard - a thought which we were dreading and other stair companies said was unavoidable! Every single stair received a top quality makeover and there isn’t a single squeak or creak. He was easy to communicate with and got the job finished in great time.

Chris is extremely experienced and skilled in his field of work. He quoted for the work and when I accepted the competitive and reasonable quote, he booked a convenient time to carry out the work. Chris kept in touch and always responded to phone calls and messages.
He arrived on time on the agreed date and immediately started working. He has all the tools to carry out the work, he setup a little work area outside the house where he did all the wood cutting, no mess inside the house.
Chris is fast, efficient and in my opinion, takes a lot of pride and care in his work. He is polite, well mannered, good around kids and worked around us walking up and down the stairs.
Chris stated from the start that wooden staircases will always have some noise as they move but he aims to reduce the noise as much as possible. He estimated that he will reduce around 85% of the squeaking noise and fully strengthen the stairs.
An opinion shared by both myself and my wife is that the squeaking noise has been reduced by 95+% and the stairs feel extremely strong now.

Initially I was told that steps repair can only be done from the bottom by couple of other trademens and my lounge plaster board wall should be knocked off, repair the steps and close the wall. But i have given myself a second chance hiring Christopher Ward who told it can be done from the above and yes he is correct. He came on time, repaired whole staitcase and completed my job. I am very much pleased by his work. Here after if I have or get any problems with staircase I will give a call immediately without second thought to Chris and get work done. It can be so hard to find good tradesmen, but sometimes you can be really lucky and find exactly the right person for the job. For problem stairs that person is Chris. We had a problem with a second flight of stairs and from the start of our communication with Chris he reassured us that the stair case was not going to collapse (which I was really worried about), we sent photos of the stairs so he could see what he would be dealing with and we quickly agreed a date and time to do the job. On the day Chris talked through the job he was going to do and explained how this would be done. Chris is really friendly and professional (loves to hum whilst he works which is actually lovely to hear), excellent workmanship and worked through until the job was finished. You know when you put up with creaking stairs for ages and then you think I MUST get this sorted. Well, I decided a few days before a new carpet was being fitted to hopefully end the noisy staircase. I posted on here and within a matter of minutes Chris was able to respond. His other reviews speak for themselves and I am so glad to say he really is as brilliant as other people say. Communication was fab and you will find a very hard working and hugely talented man. His traditional training and knowledge give you a real sense of calm. I would highly recommend Chris. We had a dangerous staircase with broken steps and since he came none of them even squeak anymore. Chris has just completed my work. This is the first time I have used Mybuilder and was slightly nervous. Chris was great and communicated up to the date of arrival. Chris is the creaky stair fixing Wizard! My stairs were incredibly creaky and I assumed they would have to be replaced but found Chris on this site and I am so glad I did. He arrived yesterday when he said he would and set about fixing each stair, replacing what needed replaced (broken treads) strengthening the back plates and inserting lots of screws and glue. My stairs now don't creak at all. Its brilliant! The fixed price was good as well as you know right away how much it will cost. Chris Ward proved that he covers the whole of the UK by his willingness to drive up to Glasgow to correct our creaking stairs and landing. Having departed early morning from his base near Hull, he arrived with us precisely within his predicted time slot, and after a quick coffee he set to work, continuing without further break until the job was done. The stairs and landing are now perfectly quiet where before they were so bad they would wake up anyone sleeping upstairs. Just as Chris states, the quoted price is what you pay, even though he would not know the exact extent of the problem before arriving. I would add that he is a friendly and cheerful character who obviously is happy in his work, and I would have no problems with hiring him again in future if the need arose.

We posted on here last week looking for someone to repair our staircase and in just over a week our stairs are now repaired. Two broken stairs and every single stair was noisy. Results of the job: Before Chris our house was plagued with a creaking, broken staircase - no-one used the stairs at night for fear of waking up the whole house. Every step (and I do mean every step) emitted moans and groans. It began to get us down. Then Chris arrived and tamed our badly behaved staircase. Tonight our home is a happy home! Not one creak can be heard as we go up and down the stairs. Therefore, I wholeheartedly recommend Chris to you if your stairs need mending.
Professionalism: Chris knows what he's doing and gets the job done with no fuss. He let me know ahead of time that the end result of the repairs wouldn't necessarily be nice to look at but that didn't matter as it will be covered with carpet. He set a fair price, communicated with me ahead of his arrival, told me what he could and would be doing, arrived on time and did the job he said he would. I can't fault him.
One more thing: If it matters to you who comes into your home to do work (and to me, as a woman, it does matter) then Chris is your man. A nicer, more trustworthy chap you couldn't hope to meet. And to me that means an awful lot. If I ever have a creaking staircase in the future I would call Chris straight away.

STAIRS - I tried for two weeks to get a quote to fix my stairs and could not even get a reply from a tradesman! Chris was different. He replied to my request within a minute and we set-up an appointment there and then. He explained that the distance he had to travel was his choice and he had no problem with it. He is also an extremely personable character and easy to talk to on the phone and in person.

I received a confirmation text the night before the job and Chris arrived promptly on the day! Despite being on the road for 4+ hours, he was right into the task. I had two problem treads and a slight sag on a riser, with the whole stair and landing creaking. It was like being on a man-of-war at sea in the old days! Chris fixed and tightened the lot and it's more like the space station now, you float over the floor! He also lifted and re-fitted the carpet for me. Although he explains that he is not proficient in this, mine went back just fine.

We also had a good old chin wag as he worked and he gave me loads of ideas for doing up the house.

It is a fair bit of money and could make people think twice but I've paid a lot more and got much less than he supplied! Money well spent. I would recommend Chris to anyone with stair problems and I already have another mate who needs his skills!

Apologies to Chris for the late posting of this review but to confirm I am very happy with the work carried out. Chris did a great job repairing our creaking stairs, and after having new carpet laid they are now totally silent. If you have creaking stairs then Chris is the man for the job.

Chris was such a pleasure to hire from start to finish! He's a true professional and a really happy soul also. He's an amazing tradesman, tidied up after himself and kept everything nice and covered during the job. I hope I don't have to use him again but would thoroughly recommend him to any of my friends.

Chris was very prompt and professional in responding to the job posted. My initial concern was the distance he would have to travel but he assured me he worked countrywide and that he specialized in staircases. He was able to give a fixed price, which I provisionally accepted pending other quotes.

Two other tradesmen visited but I am still awaiting their quotations. In the meantime Chris was available to start the job on the Tuesday before Christmas and feeling very comfortable from my telephone conversations that he knew what he was talking about, he was duly hired.

He arrived on time and was extremely courteous and respectful of our home. The job was completed within a few hours, with minimal disruption and the decor remained intact (other tradesmen had stated there would be a requirement to remove some plasterboard and make good).

I can highly recommend Chris for attitude and professionalism, however, his 'dum-di-da' singing service while he works will not trouble the X Factor contestants! (Only joking and in fairness he does warn you beforehand!)

Our staircase was very springy and creaky. Chris came within a few days of making contact, replaced a broken tread and tightened all the others so that the stairs are now virtually solid. No mess, no redecorating - wonderful!

Fixed price, replaced more stairs than we expected

Chris came to repair my stairs yesterday, they were the most squeaky stairs you could imagine, I have asked several joiners who have done work on my house about repairing them, but was told they needed replacing. I'd been putting off this job for years, worried about the potential cost and disruption of the repairs. Within minutes of arriving and getting to work, Chris had pushed my worried aside. He quickly assessed what needed to be done and worked quickly and thoroughly through the job. We threw some challenges his way with the work that needed to be done, but nothing he couldn't handle. Chris is a great person, his enthusiasm and interest in the job and the house as a whole secured him the work and we haven't been disappointed. His quote was very reasonable compared to the others we had and he is an excellent communicator - keeping us informed of his arrival on the day and texting us the day he accepted the job with some guidance to be careful on the crumbling stairs! Super nice guy, did a great job of making our stairs safe. Would not hesitate in working with him again or recommending him to anyone. This is our first house and I hope all of the tradesmen we hire are as good as Chris. Couldn't be happier.

Chris is an excellent worker, punctual, very friendly & easy to chat with. He adjusted all 5 of our inner doors which either did not close properly or rattled & did a great job. The final 6th door is a fire door into garage which had lost a hinge. Everything now works perfectly! Very happy with Chris and his work and would highly recommend.

Brilliant. Quick. Prompt. He fitted a new loft hatch and ladder - which was much harder than it sounds as the new hole was in no ways the same as the existing hole. He did the impossible and made it fit. He made it beautiful. He somehow lifted and secured it into place all by himself without fuss or mess. Too heavy for one man to lift he still fixed it into a hole 3 meters of the ground. I suspect he is magic. I know he is good. Strong recommend.

I can't recommend Chris enough- a thoroughly nice chap who is a complete expert in his field. He mended my stairs to a really high standard and it was a really skilled and fiddly job that required his expertise and experience in this area. He is a very busy and sought out individual, but managed to change his schedule to fit in my job as I was concerned about the stability of my stairs. Not only is Chris a real professional and works to a very high standard, he is very amiable. Can't recommend him highly enough and would hire again without hesitation.

Chris came on time and repaired my broken stair riser and treads within the same week of posting the job on this website. He offered a fair price and quickly got the job done without any fuss and also left me with some spare screws for another small job I am undertaking myself.
