About ATW Construction Services

I started in the construction industry age 16, first training to be a carpenter and joiner. I then did a 3 year apprenticeship in Brickwork starting with basic brickwork, Year 2 Brickwork and then City & Guilds Advanced Brickwork in the 3rd year. I worked for TG Simms in Bath before moving to Hertfordshire and working for Jarvis in Harpenden.

I covered all aspects of the building trade from groundworks to the finished projects. I also entered and won brickwork competitions when I was at college in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. I then worked for a civil engineering company in Welwyn which specialized in concreting fencing i.e close boarded chain linked expamet and palisade fencing. I then worked for a local builder in St Albans - Kirk Building Developments - for 12 years. During my time there we did house extensions, landscaping and total refurbishments. I gained experience in all types of building work. I then started my own business. I have undertaken various projects from full extensions - from the ground works to the finished article.

I have just finishing converting a house in East London from a residential home into a 6 bedroom HMO. I know the regulations required to undertake a house of multiple occupancy for rental purposes. I have also done some driveways this year including granite sets, stone gate piers with stone caps with a self binding driveway one side and a Cotswold angular stone the other.

I have a special interest in Period and Listed buildings and have used the traditional techniques in renovating these buildings including - the use of Lime Mortar when I pointed in a 16th century Farmhouse in St Albans. I also completed a geometric outside tiled pathway on a 1840 cottage which had over 5000 tiles in it. I also took down a porch and rebuilt it on another 19th Century property in Herts.

I am a craftsman and take pride in all the work I undertake.
