About Tony Dicks, founder of AD Building and Maintenance...
Tony Dicks, founder of AD Building and Maintenance

Tony left school at the age of 16 to start an apprenticeship with "Wilcon Construction of Swindon". The course was a three year course held at Swindon College in "Brick Laying". Once Tony finished the course and achieved his Indentures he then began a two year night course in "Surveying and Quantity Surveying". This he passed with Distinctions. The college required another Lecturer to instruct the students on bricklaying and so he then spent two years, part time, teaching bricklaying skills to the apprentices.

Whilst working as a part time lecturer Tony also ran a Construction Company which employed up to 15 bricklayers building house`s for local building firms. At the age of 25 Tony had built his own home, whilst he worked full time. Evenings and weekends were extremely busy for two years during this time.
Tony, renovating a French Chateau

Building must be in his family`s blood as at the age of two his son would be with him when he built the house, using a small trowel Tony had given him. Tony’s son now has his own company and works on building refurbishments in the South of England.

Having been self-employed all his working life Tony had a dream to own his own fishing business in France, from a little idea it escalated to buying a rundown Chateau and a lake in 29 acres of park land. Tony and his wife spent two years in renovating the Chateau as well as draining the lake and restocking with Carp. They ran the business for many years before selling the business to a French family who really wanted to buy it. They made them an offer that they could not refuse and moved back to England.

On picking Lincolnshire for an area to settle down they found the lovely village of Sutterton and a house that suited them well, so here they are.
