I hired Peter to refurbish a 3-bedroom house. My experience was very mixed. While some of the work was fine, there were too many issues that left a bad taste in my mouth. It was exhausting bringing up issues as it often resulted in arguments, so in the end I decided to leave them and fix them myself. I don’t understand the point of hiring a middleman to manage workers if I have to constantly bring up basic but tedious issues, such as light switches being installed upside down. Or e.g. fire doors not being installed safely - his worker claims that only 2 hinges per door were supplied, but I bought the same pack again and it was in fact 3. It’s tedious having to argue over small but important things.
To start with, Peter misdiagnosed a damp issue in the kitchen as “rising damp” and charged me £1,600 to tank the walls. It turned out the real issue was penetrating damp caused by a broken drain opposite the wall, which he charged an extra £250 to fix. He says he cannot see underground, but obviously there are ways to inspect a drain without having seeing underground.
I paid a lot of money for a patio (much more than I was quoted by others), that was not pointed properly. He claims that the cement was faulty, but the patio was pointed unprofessionally anyway by sweeping mortar into joints without compacting it.
There are too many issues to mention in the review character limit. My advice is to hold back a certain % for snagging issues that you will only realise later on.
