removal of paint and render and restoration of stone work to victorian terrace house

Matt restored the Bath stone on the front of our house: hacking off old paint and render, repairing damaged areas and refinishing edges and surfaces. He was very professional when giving a quote and did the work on time and for the quoted amount. We're very pleased with the results and would not hesitate to recommend him.

Victorian house double story bay replacement

Matt carried out a difficult renovation for us on a double storey bay window in a large Victorian house (split into several flats). The stonework had previously been covered in a thick paint render which had to be removed. Some of the stone when uncovered was in very bad condition and had to be replaced rather than renovated. Matt did warn us at the outset of this possibility and and possible extra cost. The extra work was well managed and throughout Matt was very straightforward, honest, helpful and hardworking and we where all very pleased with the final result.

repair ,restoration and part rebuild of stone bay to victorian property

I am very happy with the quality of the work that Matt has undertaken for us. We had a large bay window which needed a lot of work to bring up to date. Matt completed the work to a high standard and was very knowledgeable and kept us updated throughout the job. I found him to be polite, professional and a hard worker. I would have no hesitation in recommending him for stonemason work that other people may be considering.

    Re-lay ,re-point and clean patio

Matt carried out maintenance work on our patio, paved BBQ area, stepping stones across lawn leading to this, paths round the house and front doorstep. The project involved cleaning, relaying, repointing and replacing stones. He also had to take down and reassemble a garden shed. The work was carried out conscientiously and to a good standard. It was on time and no unreasonable over estimate costs were incured. Matt kept us informed of exactly when he would be working and explained what he thought was best to do clearly

Restoration of stonemasonry to front and rear elevations of Georgian 5 story terraced house work included stone cleaning repointing plastic repairs and replacement of damaged masonry

The front of my Grade II listed property in Bath was a sorry sight having suffered extensive damage over many decades from the build up of mineral deposits (which caused the surface of the stone to break up in many places) as well as failed ancient paintwork on the window reveals. Carefully following the terms of the Listed Buildings Department consent, Matt did a great job repairing cracks, damaged stonework (sections of stonework had crumbled away) and failed pointing using traditional lime mortar. The end result of weeks of Matt’s careful painstaking work has not only restored the stonework but will prevent further unnecessary damage to the building in the future. In places where the failed paintwork was removed, the stone beneath the paint was carefully repaired by Matt with lime mortar prior to applying a shelter coat. Throughout the job, Matt applied himself conscientiously to the task – even continuing with the arduous preparatory work when Bath was covered in snow and ice and thermometers were well below zero for days on end! Matt is hard working, experienced and passionate about his craft. The job was completed in the estimated timescale and was on budget (which is rare these days!). I’d be delighted to share my ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos of the house with anyone contemplating similar work.
