We are absolutely delighted with the outstanding job Peter completed for us this week. The job was actually far more challenging than we expected and had posted for, but Peter and his team worked assiduously to ensure everything was completed to the highest standard and made some excellent suggestions to ensure the final result was exactly what we wanted. It was fortunate for us he finished his previous job early and had a small window of opportunity which we took, as he is certainly in demand. We are not surprised. He arrived promptly every day, worked in a conservatory in unbearable heat and didn’t leave until everything was clean and tidy and he had informed us of the next days work schedule. We have already booked him in for a future project knowing it will be completed on time, to the highest standard and at a competitive price.

Davey did an outstanding job treating and repainting the extensive masonry of my house. The weather was unkind but that did not stop him completing the task on time. Davey regularly informed me of what he was doing and why, which I really appreciated. He was courteous, informative and thoroughly professional. I highly recommend Davey. If you need work doing give him a call. You will not be disappointed. A first class guy.

Robert decorated our new showroom and did a wonderful job of it. I asked Robert to get the paint himself, just to make life easier for me and he picked out colours that worked very well for the showroom purpose. All completed within the agreed time frame which not many trades do, so; I'm incredibly happy with that. On a personal level, Rob is an easy to get on with guy and made me feel at ease with the task in hand. He has offered to come back and touch up any snagging now that it's all done/dry but as we have a few more bits that need doing now; we will happily book him in for more work now and in the future.

    Redecorating, Painting, Prepping and papering

This was the first time I'd used any tradesman in my house. There was a misunderstanding on the rate, straight off. After being told the day rate I assumed I would be paying 3 times the day rate for 3 days work, no an extra 100 was added for materials and fuel etc, no extra materials were used. First day worked about 3.5hrs not a bad way to essentially earn £160. A couple of jobs he said he was going to do, paint hallway ceiling and paint the curtain rail, never happened. After his 1st day of wallpapering found an area he had missed. Mentioned it the following day and he was just going to leave it. To be fair he Don a good job with the matching of the wallpaper, unfortunately some of the paper has already started to come away from the wall, not what you'd expect after only 5 days. On closer inspection it is clear he isn't the best at going around obstacles such as doors, windows or radiators.

Yes indeed, it is the only way.. any already glossed woodwork must be rubbed down sufficently to allow a decent enough key for a good undercoat. only then can gloss be applied as a finish coat. ( gloss will not adehere to old gloss ) hope this helps..

Oil based gloss does discolour and go yellow over time as the oil content comes to the surface causing the discolouration. in future do not use oil based paints. use water based gloss, eggshell and satin instead. these water based paints are getting better as the years go by since they were first introduced to the market. i'm going to share one of my top trade secrets...when i'm applying water based gloss, eggshell etc on to existing oil based paint, i do not want to spend hours excessively rubbing down in order to provide an excellent bond between the 2 types of paint that would not otherwise adhere well to each other. so instead i use a special water based paint that 'etches' itself onto almost any surface, so it keys itself onto the gloss!...then you paint your new water based paint system on top of the special water based etching paint. if you are doing spindles for example, you wouldn't believe how much time this saves. this is the paint: zinsser 123 plus (yep, silly name!) http://www.zinsseruk.com/product/bulls-eye-1-2-3-plus/ you can generally only buy it from decorating trade shops such as leyland and brewers, or order it online. it's not the cheapest paint on the market, but i know from experience...you get what you pay for! all the paints and products i use are the most expensive on the market but my workmanship lasts and i save huge amounts of labour time when on a job by using the tools, paints and products. follow my trade top tips and you'll too achieve results you wouldn't otherwise be able to!!! happy painting

Hi, a mist coat is essential when preparing fresh plaster for decoration. diy stores will sell you an expensive product specifically for this purpose, but any light colour of water based emulsion is absolutely fine, so using up spare magnolia is a good idea. i mix up the paint and water in a bucket, and apply with a large brush to minimise the splatter. i know others use rollers, which is quicker, but also messier! once the mist coat has been applied, you cando any filling required, and then get on with the emulsion of choice. i hope this has answered your question. regards, david clarke (ds clarke building services)

1,thoroughly wash the surface with mineral spirits and a rag. 2,fill any indentations or nail holes with wood filler, following the instructions for the particular wood filler that you chose. 3,lightly sand the surface with a fine grade sandpaper until all the glossy surface of the varnish has been removed from the surface. 4, hoover the area and clean the dust from the sanding on the areas to be painted with a tackcloth. 5,prime the surface with oil-based zinsser primer. 6,wait for the primer to dry completely. 7 apply 2 coats of dulux trade undercoat. 8, apply 1 to 2 coats of dulux trade gloss. i hope this helps. matt
