Power to shed - Electrical job in Didcot, Oxfordshire
Installation of power/lighting to an outside shed (15' x 8', built two years ago). I have a modern consumer unit in the garage (also installed about two years ago). It's a 17 metre run (standard twin & earth) from there across the loft (it's a bungalow), then another 17 metres (SWA cable) down the wall, along the edge of the patio to the shed.
I intend to run about four power sockets (for electric tools and possibly a heater in the winter) and a couple of fluorescent light fittings. I would guess 6mm cable would suffice - professional opinion welcome! Either using existing earth from house, or new earth in shed - again advice welcome.
I am happy to assist (and reduce the price!) by installing the cables myself so that they just need connecting to the consumer unit in the garage, a junction box on the house wall, and the new consumer unit in the shed, and also to install the power and lighting rings in the shed ready for connection. In fact I'd do the whole job myself were it not for the new regs requiring inspection and approval! The contractor must therefore have the appropriate qualifications to issue the necessary certificate(s).
I'm happy to supply the materials if I can source them more cheaply.
