Job description

The bedroom and first half of the hallway have existing hardwood floorboards nailed into wooden joists. They had been covered with carpet for decades and the floorboards need restoring, maybe even replacing (some are cracked, some large gaps, etc). We'd like your opinion on this. The bedroom is 13m2, the first half of the hallway includes a set of 7 stairs and is approx 3m2.

The second half of the hallway is a relatively new concrete floor extension. We'd like to lay hardwood floorboards on this so it is consistent with the first half of the hallway. Area is approx 3.5m2. Probably need to level, then put damp-proof coatings down to prepare surface. Again, would like your opinion on how best to do this.

Finally, the living room is 3.9m x 4.4m and is part of the concrete floor extension so we're assuming a similar preparation of the surface would be needed. We're thinking about buying reclaimed hardwood parquet flooring and laying this but depends on the price. We may just extend the wooden floorboards from the hallway into the living room.

Part of what we'd like from you is help and advice on the best way to approach this project as well as a rough idea of the cost broken down by labour and materials where possible. Let me know if you're interested and I'll organise for you to come round and see what needs doing.

Feedback for GK Floors

Graham restored our old pine floorboards that had been hidden under a carpet for 30 years, and we're over the moon with the result. Graham is one of a kind - a true artisan, a master of breathing life back into wood. His passion for restoration of old wood furniture and floors is clear to see and his experience and ability are evident in the finished product. He was efficient, created no mess at all (no dust from sanding), and was very considerate in working around the people in the house. We'd happily recommend him to anyone.
