Gutting and refitting new kitchen (in the new year) - Kitchen Fitting job in Oldbury, West Midlands
As the title says, I'd want the kitchen gutted and almost everything replaced with new. Hopefully it won't need replastering but never say never!
Tradesmen will need to be comfortable fitting either Wren or Ikea kitchen cabs (I'm happy to go with recommendations if their cab quotes are similar). Obviously this will be mid/late Jan job.
Plan of Action:
Gut and remove backsplash tiles,
Add a plywood subfloor for new flooring
Fit the new base cabinets and worktop around existing appliances (sink, w/m, dryer, fridge etc, leaving space for new cooker)
Fit wall cabinets around cooker hood/fridge.
Pipes and cables may be old due to age of kitchen.
A steel beam runs along one side of the kitchen, shortening the wall cab height there.
Gas cooker/hood is on party wall - hood is not vented to outside.
Feedback for A Ahmed
I'll be honest, as a new home owner I didn't realise I needed to book a builder in advance, regardless of quotes! So he pulled through for me on super short notice pre-kitchen delivery.
A thing to note is that he would turn up in the late morning, and consequently have to work til the early evening to have a full day done.
Sam was good at the start of the job, but could not keep to his own deadlines, whether because of bad luck or just not planning (one person doing a full gut, a surprise sudden full replacement of a dry rot floorboards and a full refit in 6 days?)
Contact completely dropped after this 6 day job, he promised he would come back and finish off with tiling, but only contacted me back after a month had passed! The reason why was because he was planning his own wedding. I told him I was happy to wait til all wedding plans etc was over for him to finish the kitchen, but no.
He only came back and put the tiles on the wall. He promised to come back the next day to grout, but never did. He actually cancelled the call when I called that evening to see where he was, and has never contacted me since.
Since then, I've noticed that anything that he had to cut (worktop edges, filler panels and even tiles) was seriously bow curved, the tiles fell OFF due to poor adhesive placement, and I've had to finish myself the grouting, caulking and fixing what he did.
I'm grateful he did my kitchen on short notice. But it was a rush job with major delays, and it shows.
