Existing Lounge gas fire removal and replacement fitted

Bridgend

Gavin came to remove the old fire and advise us on a suitable replacement. He did not accept any money. He came to fit the new fire, the job he quoted for. After fitting it he was not happy because the fire was blowing gasses into the room so had to block it off. Suggested we fit a rotating cowling to help chimney flow, also suggested chimney could do with a clean. he sourced the rotating cowling himself and returned when he discovered it was not required. he didn't charge for that. On the 3rd visit he removed the new fire and started cleaning the chimney. He removed about 17 kilos of twigs, dust and nest remains. He inhaled dust for about 2 hours and went twice up the roof. He reinstalled the fire and then worked fine. During all visits Gavin ensured gas was safe with no leaks. When we asked him how much, he asked for not much more than his original quote, despite 3 visits instead of 1, and about 12 hours in our house as opposed to about 3 hours if it was straight forward, with no complications. The delay/unscheduled chimney sweep was my fault cos I was not straight with him when he asked me its state and usage. We had to press him to accept some more money for his troubles. A nice kind person, true gentleman.
