Sam turned up on time and worked long hours till late as he identified various problems such as electrical wiring resting on metal joists that had to be re routed and heating pipes that were raised too high and accomodations had to be made to ensure the flooring was not resting on them in addition to having to put additional struts between joists where there were gaps where the old heating system had been removed and no flooor strengthening had been put in at the time to allow for this (none of this had not been obvious prior to old floor being removed).
He did not charge me any extra on top just his agreed day rate, and everyone who has seen the floor has commented on the meticulousness of his work and how good the floor looks.
I have since had him back to do all the other floors upstairs and also to put in two bookshelves where I had been advised by other joiners to "just go to ...(a well known Swedish Company, it will be easier" or flatly stated that it couldn't be done.
As I have had a lot of workmen doing work in my house over the past few years, Sam shines out as someone who genuinely cares about providing what the customer wants, rather than giving the customer what he can be bothered to do. I only wish more workmen had his ethics and passion for his craft.
