From the outset David was helpful, patient and obliging. The quote he provided was not the cheapest, but he had considered the bigger picture and included "extras" that in the long run saved us money; for example, he included replacing the felt under the tiles where this was necessary, replacing some of the tiles and fitting new guttering, thus making sure the roof is water-tight and avoiding the hassle and cost of having this done at a later date and another hire of scaffolding!
Matching the existing tiles on the roof was a bit of a challenge as there are subtle variations in the style used for cottages in this part of the country, again David took the time and trouble to locate the correct ones we needed, eventually finding and collecting these from a reclamation yard some distance away.
As the job progressed, David had a few problem with his van, meaning that he lost at least one full day on the job, nevertheless he worked later in the day on several occasions to catch up, mindful of our request to have the job finished and the scaffolding removed before we went on holiday. On the last day of the job, the scaffolding had been removed the previous day, but determined to finish off the last bit of fascia, David used a ladder for access; this was a fiddly part to fit, as to make the new edge blend into the line of the house, it was necessary to carefully trim the new plastic, which entailed several trips up-and-down the ladder - eventually working by torch-light as dusk set in. David also made sure he cleared up all the rubbish - checking the ground using the torch before wishing us a good holiday and departing.
The only downside was that we couldn't see the finished result until the following day, as it was too dark!
Very pleased with the new look to the house - a definite improvement which should last for years; I would be happy to appoint David Middleton for future work and have no hesitation in recommending him for similar projects.
