My first request was to root up the foundations and start from scratch, he assured me that they were sufficient to hold the wall and it would just add unnecessary cost to the project, this saved a lot on the cost allocated. He then confirmed that he hadn't needed as many bricks he had costed in and so reduced the price again. Finally, he noticed another wall that needed repointing in a few places, and announced he had done it for free , "because it needed doing and I had some cement left over.."
I have often heard of jobs continually getting more expensive, but not the other way around..and the wall looked fantastic..
