Repairs / improvements to newly exposed chimney breast

Paignton

I was new to the website and the concept of putting my work out 'to tender', so when I advertised, I expected very local businesses to respond, and even sent specific 'invites' to various. (No-one local ever bothered to respond!)
The county of Devon is pretty huge, and Dan lives a good hour and a half from me. For him to respond online within a matter of hours was impressive (on a Friday evening). To then be happy to discuss by phone soon after was great. As a ridiculously average DIY'er, I was way out of my league discussing the options for my very untidy chimney, but Dan was positive, polite, optimistic and happy to impart solutions and offer to travel down for a quote, even though I made sure he knew we were on a limited budget.
Dan then travelled over to us the next day and spent time looking the job and giving us a fair and competitive price.
He then made himself available only a couple of days later, and was with us for two days. Despite the big commute, he arrived early and punctually both days, bringing all of his own equipment and materials, and from what I saw, worked flat out until he left in the evening. Both days, he used his own vacuum and left the room spotless, which was quite an achievement considering the fact that he had been rubbing down dirty bricks!
The actual work was completed to a standard that my wife and I hadn't thought would be achievable considering the condition of the bricks and pointing (including cracks, holes, chips and general poor condition) the work was he beginning of what will be total redecoration of the room, and the chimney will most definitely be a fantastic feature.
The plasterer we thn had to carry out some work, was so impressed, he wanted Dan's details as he had other work lined up for him.
Dan is a young guy who is a credit to his trade. He was polite, helpful, optimistic, fair, hard working and keen to work. These are all qualities which I don't think are seen in trades people every day.
He has a young family and a beat up van, and it would be an honour to be part of him winning some money. I would also absolutely love to win, as it would mean could finish the room off to the same standard... Our funds dried up after the chimeny and plaster work, so we have a very unfinished room until we save some more - photos available on request.
