Completing our build on time and on budget and meeting building regulations was obviously of high importance to us. Yes, it was just a chimney and not an entire home, but our builder took the time to understand our preferences and come back to us with ideas on a technical design suitable for our 3-storey property.
We were confident, from the outset, that the process and the manner in which Dave Summerton and his son, Matt, used would get us to the right end result. Throughout the job, there were conversations to be had about interpretation of the regulations, how we would fabricate the internal builders opening, form the throat and lintel, and install the limestone surround, hearth, and Aga multi-fuel burner. I don’t think there was a single aspect of the build that wasn’t discussed with us and then completed as agreed.
And the final Building Control inspection - without a hitch and complimentary to the builders for how they not only executed the job, but the efficient and friendly 3-way communication between builder, Building Control team, and the customer as the job proceeded. Well, it’s now January, and the frost is starting to bite ~ but we’re happy because we have a warm fire that changes the ambience of the lounge ~ and, of course, the children are happy because we have as many marshmallows in the home as we do lumps of smokeless coal.
