My garden needs a makeover because for over 30 years i have lived in flats and have always wanted a garden of my own. Now i have one my poor health restricts what i can do. I currently suffer with a chronic heart condition, sleep apnea, insulin dependant diabetes and arthritis. What I need is a low maintenance garden where I can enjoy a cup of tea in the sunshine.
When I lived in Kidderminster I was vice-chairman of stourport round table and an active member of wyre forest lifeline voluntary ambulance unit. I had to resign from both organisations when I moved to bromsgrove in 1991 and started work for bromsgrove district council. I was employed as a warden in sheltered housing. My first scheme was 3 flats and 40 bungalows spread over five streets which I covered 24 hrs a day 5 days a week. I worked for 13 yrs without a days sickness. After my first heart attack, I transferred to Crabtree court. Being indoors was easier than being outside in all weather's.
I took early retirement on health grounds while I was based at Gilbert court extra care scheme.
I now live in a sheltered housing bungalow and I finally have a garden of my own. I have paid to have the garden cleared but I am struggling to maintain the weeds which seem to grow everywhere. The 'lawn' is sparse and the ground uneven. The first time I tried to mow the grass I had a fall and hurt my arm. The fencing at the rear needs repair but when I tried to mend it I found the wood had rotted badly.
The one redeeming feature is a large yukka plant I would like to keep.
