I am a keen gardener, a passion I inherited from my father, but now as I speed headlong to retirement in a few years I find the more physical aspects more challenging. A makeover would mean I could prepare the hard landscaping to make it easier, with raised beds etc to sow what my garden means to me I enclose a pen I wrote once the family left home which I think will ring true for many -
The Garden Lesson
In the still of the evening, wine glass in hand
I survey my garden my pristine land
I realise just what Is lost
And sadly see the actual cost
An immaculate garden, like immaculate home
Are just so, because I live alone
No dog poop, to bag and bin
No cat muck to stick my fingers in
No broken blooms or trampled shrubs
No balls to bounce among the buds
An archway, where the climbers cling
No longer home for the favourite swing
I've now achieved my perfect goal
Colourful, peaceful a joy for the soul
But things have changed as time has past
I have my perfect view at last
But If it's a religion and the garden a shrine
I'd gladly give it all away to be able to turn back time 😊
For what we must remember as we plant and weed and toil
The outcome has no purpose if we cannot share the soil
Memories of past summers eves
when children are tucked away
Were only made much sweeter
by the memories of that day!
