Ric Adams

Wallington

We have brought up 5 children, and our son and daughter in their 20's both have cerebral palsy, which is a physical disability caused by oxygen deprivation to the brain at birth. They are both dependent on their wheelchairs, but despite their difficulties, they both lead very full and happy lives. They are a constant inspiration to us! Space is always at a premium inside our house because we have so much equipment and so many wheelchairs, and much of this spills over into the garden when the weather is nice. Caring for two grown up children with special needs is very tiring and time consuming, so we have little time to garden. The garden is overgrown, and one of our ponds is a safety issue for wheelchair users. We would love this pond to be filled in and turned into something more practical for our son and daughter, but we haven't been able to find the time to do it. It would give them so much pleasure to have a safe and beautiful garden to enjoy in the Summer, and it would also be a place for us to relax when we are not caring. Over 20 years of caring has taken its toll on our backs and knees, but we wouldn't change a thing, because our son and daughter have brought so much happiness and love into our lives! :)
