My husband, who always did the heavy work in our garden, had emergency surgery in Austria, while on holiday. He had to be helicoptered to Innsbruck to the University Hospital. He only had 20% chance of survival, but he survived the surgery, as a result of being very fit before the operation. He is now home, after a spell in intensive care and an air ambulance flight home, but it will be a year before he is fit again. He will never be allowed to lift heavy things again and can only do very minor things in the garden. He was a valuable member of Melrose in Bloom and did a lot of the heavy lifting and mending of big plant boxes etc. He will no longer be able to do this. His 70th birthday is May 13 and we had planned a special holiday, which he is not well enough to take. We have quite a large garden and it would be good to have a makeover to make it more user friendly and this would make his 70th a very special birthday and the garden somewhere he could relax more.
