The back end of my garden needs a makeover because it is the right of way that runs along The River Quaggy and it has been neglected for decades. Various property owners (including myself!) - along the river have used the bank to dump garden debris - to get rid of it but also to make the area unattractive for loiterers etc. for security reasons.
I have now been here 4 years and think it is a great pity.
I would like to remove all the build up hump of garden debris on the bank to flatten the ground, probably also the self seeded trees. On the other side of the river there is woodland. I imagine using the log debris to make some sort of large - or a couple of - bug hotels and having a bench to sit and admire the river and woodland - for anybody passing. I am not sure what sort of planting would work as the bank is quite shady because of the trees, some of which are quite majestic. At the moment there is a lot of nettles, bindweed and brambles.
I have thought of researching how to introduce hedgehogs but realise this may be a very big project. There are foxes, mice, rats and squirrels here of course and lots of birds: parakeets, crows, magpies, pigeons, robins, blue tits and others which I have not identified yet, being very new to taking an interest in birds!
Please vote, thank you.
