Win a Grand for your Garden

Huge congratulations to Megan Rees from Oxford who entered the competition hoping to change the life of her three year old daughter Ariella.

Ariella has severe disabilities, she was given a 10% chance of survival at birth and has beaten the odds. Her parents have had to give up work to provide round the clock care for her as her needs are so complex.

Ariella currently has nowhere safe to play outside and can’t even go to the park as it is too risky for her.

We are very excited to begin the transformation and give Ariella beautiful garden to play in. Watch this space!

I am writing to you and applying to you as a wife with a husband who truly loves his garden!

We married last December and as a wedding present, we asked for ‘garden vouchers’ to count towards the planting of a ‘sensory garden’ for our three children; Fennella, Bramwell and Lysander. We tried our level best to put the vouchers to good use, but our garden is not quite the stimulus to the senses we had hoped for!

We bought our cottage in 2012 and have completed it down to the last roof tile and brick and had a variety of tremendous builders and trades people to help us realise our dream. The cottage itself (set in Robin Hood’s village) is a chocolate box vision, but is so sadly let down, by the lack of a cottage garden, so much so, that it cries out for it, every time we pull up the drive.

We have settled to our ‘forever home’ and whilst we make use of every room in the house; the garden needs a little bit of magic, so that we can make the most of the potential our outside space has to offer. We have dreams of a rose garden, a pizza oven, fruit trees and a ‘troll bridge’ over a pond, as my daughter gets really excited every time she sees this at our local garden center! She always says, ‘”Shall we get one of these Daddy!?”

My husband is a wonderful person, he is an ex-Royal Marine (40 Commando) and a Gulf-War veteran. He currently works as a serving Police Officer for South Yorkshire force. He has spent his life helping and serving others. The garden is his escape and has the potential to be a haven of peace in a very busy and hectic life.

I want the home and garden to ‘hug’ my husband, and serve as a back-drop to our family life as the children grow up. We want a special garden to grow with us as a hideaway and a haven. We have the skills to maintain it, but are lacking the initial imagination (and money after doing the house) to design it and make it come to life! For that we need a little bit of extra help!

I am willing to snap on my gardening gloves and do whatever I can to assist and to create the garden that Martin deserves. Martin does so much for us, the children and I would be so happy if we could surprise him with a garden transformation to love in spades! We truly hope to be given the opportunity to love OUR garden!
