I have always vowed we would never live with a half job again after leaving my husband....
My new family home was gutted, decorated, almost finished we just had the bathroom/toilet that needed knocking into a family sized beach Hut themed room not a complexed job.
After recommendation I appointed a builder who agreed price and time limit, so the kids and I started to knock out dividing wall as agreed paid half the fee in cash so he could buy materials to then hear nothing...... No work,no word! The bathroom stayed as rubble filled jagged metal exposed mess. Eventually after many chasing calls builder came to remove rest of walls with promises of fast completion then again disappeared promised dates came and went calls met with empty promises.
Eventually he sent a young plasterer that destroyed any hope of a beautiful bathroom he covered floor, bath, toilet blocked from plaster mix, corridor carpet displayed clumps of plaster, the walls were more artexed than skimmed and the thick rim around toilet and sink that were ment tobe removed reduced me to tears. That evening was spend clearing and scrubbing before bathroom could be used.
Then came more broken promises leaking radiator pipes and many chasing call plus another payment to cover his van repair bills so he could resume work, for this I had to take out a loan. 2nd plasterer came to remove and correct walls but still no completion date set in stone.....
Last month seen a new ceiling and half a wooden decorative wall.
It has been a year now job practical paid for leaving me broke as I used holiday savings plus emergency loan, we bath with bits of plaster that break off due to steam, bare stained floorboards, children so uncomfortable they use neighbours bathroom for showers.
Please vote this dream of a beach Hut bathroom had left me depressed and penniless
