Our bathroom is a disaster... We have had to purchase our council house to renovate it to meet my daughter and myself needs. She is wheelchair bound with a rare malformation of the brain called miller dieker syndrome and I also have a chronic illness. We are unable to use the bath tub as it leaks through to the kitchen below where electrics are located. The shower also leaks. The council would not help us to rectify the problems. I depend on baths as pain relief for my back and knees in order to look after my daughter and also my two disabled parents. I am currently having to rely on family tubs to help, they let me use their facilities but we live different ends of the city. There was a time where i was well enough to do these things myself but due to constant pain I am unable to labour to such an extent. It hasn't helped that our last contractor has literally taken all out funds and left us in a predicament. We employed a builder (employed through my builder) To create a usable space for wheelchair access for our daughter but he wasn't what he claimed to be. To be able to use my own bathroom and feel relief just once would be a dream come true. I'm ashamed and embarrassed to have people over to visit just incase they need the loo. A new bathroom to us means relief and freedom from both mental and physical pain.
It's not just about a new bathroom for us it's about having the right to the things other families take for granted.
