Software Development at MyBuilder:

Our focus is to produce high quality, working and tested code which not only keeps us happy and productive, but also helps the business to succeed. Our agile development process has been honed from exploring various flavours of agile, and we believe that our way of working helps us get the right things done at the right time. We strive at all times to optimise efficiency and productivity. Nothing is as irritating as slow systems, poor unit testing facilities, or patching bad code instead of refactoring. We are committed to constant re-evaluation and improvement of the way we work.

We design our core libraries, data and model structures using appropriate design practices which enable the website to rapidly evolve with minimal complications or bugs. Our current technology stack, which is open to change if needed, is Symfony on PHP, Apache, PostgreSQL, Debian, Amazon S3, Backbone.js and jQuery.

As a developer in our Tech Team, you will spend around 80-90% of your time programming. Equally you will understand that maintenance — bug fixing, addressing technical debt, refactoring, increasing automated test coverage — are as important as writing new code. All Tech Team members contribute to the design and development of new software components.

The Person:

In order to make the grade we ask that you have the following:

• EITHER a computer science degree OR 4 years commercial experience OR previous significant contribution to an open source project
• The ability to write good quality object oriented PHP
• Good HTML, JavaScript and CSS skills
• Knowledge of design patterns
• The desire to continuously learn and improve yourself
• Proficient English language skills
• Enthusiasm and a 'can do & will do' attitude
• Proactivity and self-drive
• The ability to quickly assimilate new skills and technologies

Having any of these would move you further up our shortlist:

• Previous experience of the Symfony framework
• Experience with PHPUnit
• Previous development of either web or native apps for mobile devices
• You know your cp from your mv
• Prior experience gained within an agile development team
