Advice on removing ivy from a quarry wall

My problem has not really got anything to do with trees but thought it would be the best job type to select for advice. My house is located in an old quarry, and backs on to the quarry wall. Not sure of the height of the wall but is at least as high as two houses. My problem is Ivy which has been allowed to grow and which now covers the majority of the wall and is extremely think in some places (some 4-5ft thick in places). Does anyone have any advice on how to kill and remove, and what I would be left with afterwards in regards to appearance. Also what type of company would actually be interested in doing this type of job. I would appreciate your feedback. Thanks in advance.

I recently posted an ad for complete removal (including the roots) of a partly collapsed

partly collapsed ''hedge''. Early days yet, but puzzled by why I can find no trace of this on my records. Please advise.
