    Kitchen Extension/Side Return

“Paul and his team were an excellent choice. We had a vision, and they added to our ideas and came up with solutions for any issues that arose. Our house now seems vastly bigger even though the footprint hardly changed, all achieved through good design. We also had good peace of mind on planning permission with their 100% success rate. Our extension was a very smooth process, in very good hands. Would recommend.”

    Plan/design alterations to awkward property!
Possibly due to long delays caused by the planning office, Paul completely lost track of our budget and delivered plans for work we couldn't afford. If working with Paul, make sure you discuss your budget limitations as often as possible!

    Ground floor kitchen/diner extension
I'm afraid I was dissatisfied with Pauls visit, I'm not sure what I paid £250 for as nothing concrete given in terms of options and no follow up paperwork for nearly three weeks which had been promised after first visit. A shame as very impressed with Joel whom I spoke with initially. Perhaps our £100k budget was too low for this companies full attention.

    Answer from tradesperson:

After a telephone conversation to understand the client’s needs and if their thoughts are realistic, the first part is to make a site visit to discuss options and ways forward with them. This is to see if they wish to go ahead at all after some of the main restraints and opportunities are discussed. We come up with a minimum of 3 options at this stage. The visit does not cover our costs but we think it is valuable to the client and it is agreed to be rolled into the fee if they go ahead. This initial site visit is always explicitly agreed in writing prior to the visit, as are the later stages. We are surprised by the above feedback which is unfair given our explicit agreement and time invested.

Brief, ideas and concept development. Planning submission. Lead design consultant including coordinating the Building Control submission. Preparing and collating tender documentation. Contractor tender return review. Site inspections and running client contractor meetings.

We appointed Paul to design a major extension to the downstairs of our home. The brief was to provide an open plan layout for a kitchen, dining and living area with maximum use of daylight and improved openness and visibility onto our garden. Paul came up with a wonderful and creative design that gives a great feeling of space and floods the room with lots of natural light, including an ingeniously angled side window that has everyone stopping to admire when they walk past our house. Paul managed the whole process for us, including initial design consultation, drawings and models, planning permission, tendering for builders and overall project management of the building process until completion which was a massive benefit to us as the only experience we had of this was the horror stories we had heard of others who had tried to do it themselves! He also gave us expert advice on the design of our kitchen, the lighting layout for the whole room and many useful ideas to maximise the use of space and show it off to its best advantage. Paul's handling of the whole project was brilliant and we have ended up with the most fantastic room which is practical and comfortable whilst providing a "wow" factor for our home that everyone comments on. We would have not hesitation in recommending Paul.

Architect for studio theatre and sixth form centre. We undertook the architectural services, inlcuding leading the design team, from initial concept to completion.

Paul Vick's remit was to design (feasibility through construction) for a school studio theatre and changing, office, classroom/ ICT and sixth form centre which included some interface with existing buildings. This remit included planning and building control submissions, assistance with funding submission reports, governor presentations, professional consultant appointment, main contract review and collation, tender review and interview, contract management. Paul Vick is an inspirational architect and his skill in handling contractors was superb. Any problems we had were sorted out before they really became a problem. Comes highly recommended.
