Q

French drain/ decking??

Hi, my back garden ground level is higher than house floor level, with resultant damp problems. A french drain was put in a while back which helped. I would now like to put decking at the back of the house- should i remove french drain and dig away all dirt from around house edge, with decking over it?? Hope this makes sense!

Hi Kirsteen
In response to your question, yes. The ground level should be no higher than 150mm below the damp course ( two bricks ).This is standard practise.
Many thanks

Hi Kevin
The chaeapest option is a shingled drive, but be aware this option is only a solution if the driveway is on a level surface.

Many thanks

York stone Patio, 3m x 4m, layed 2 months ago, stone are loosening from cement.

Builder laid patio, without hardcore on clay. Convinced me I didn't need it. Second time it was laid in six months, same guy. Any ideas.

I beleive i have just offered a quote for this work, but in response to your question due to the weight and size of the paving involved a stone base is necessary to provide a firm foundation.
